PT Para o projeto conjunto da Praça Transalpina e do novo EPICenter foi fundamental entendê-los como uma entidade única, com um ajudando a criar o espaço para o outro. Para trabalhar neste sentido, uma ação importante foi criar a percepção de que o EPICenter seria composto por dois volumes – quando na realidade eles são as partes poerminentes de uma grande base subterrânea de espaços expositivos. Estes dois volumes acima do solo, situados precisamente na divisa entre as cidades de Nova Gorica e Gorizia, funcionam em conjunto com a Estação Nova Gorica no enquadramento do espaço urbano da praça – uma composição que ao mesmo tempo tem o intuito de destacar a fachada da própria Estação. Destinado a ser um espaço público e cívico, o terreno da praça será mantido permanentemente livre como uma esplanada, povoada apenas por mobiliários leves e soltos. Um espaço côncavo aberto para ser apropriado pelos visitantes nos usos e eventos desejados. O conceito de dualidade pode ser estendido para a compreensão da arquitetura do EPICenter. Por serem dois (pelo menos à primeira vista), os edificios transmitem o simbolismo transnacional de união das duas cidades no espaço da praça. Como gêmeos, criam também um o contexto do outro, e os diferentes tipos de fachadas acontecem nessa relação. O desenho do projeto une a Praça Transalpina, o EPICenter e a Estação Nova Gorica em um centro transcultural. Uma nova e distinta forma urbana de conexão entre as duas cidades e o seus diferentes tempos históricos compartilhados – passado, presente e futuro.
EN For the design of both the Transalpina Square and the EPICenter it was central to understand them as a single entity, with one helping to create the space for the other. In order to work in this direction, an important action was to create a perception that the EPICenter was divided into two volumes — when in reality they are the preeminent above-ground building parts of a great underground base of exhibition spaces. These two above-ground volumes, located precisely on the borderline between the two cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, works together with the Nova Gorica Station in the framing of the urban space of the square — a composition that at the same time has the intention to highlight the facade of the Station itself. Intended to be a public and civic place, the ground of the square remains free like an esplanade, populated only by a loose furniture. A concave space open to be appropriated by its visitors with any uses and events desired. The concept of duality can be extended to the understanding of the EPICenter's architecture. By being two (at least in its first appearance), the buildings can emulate the transnational symbolism of the two cities united in the space of the square. As twins, they create also one the context of the other, and the different types of facades follow this relation. The design of the project unites the Transalpina Square, the EPICenter, and the Nova Gorica Station into a transcultural hub. A new and distinct urban form of connection between the two cities and their shared past, present, and future.
